EC-CLI Support — Custom Process Development

Custom process development for your electrospinning machine

For a new material, an unusual geometry, or a tolerance that standard protocols cannot achieve, VIVOLTA scientists work alongside your team to develop a custom electrospinning process on your EC-CLI — and deliver a validated, repeatable protocol that your team can run independently.

The Challenge

The challenge is not producing a fiber once, but reproducing it reliably.

Reaching that point on a demanding application can require extensive iteration. VIVOLTA’s specialists shorten that path. This is process support for owners of an electrospinning machine, not outsourcing: we help you reach a reproducible result more efficiently, then document the protocol so the capability remains in-house.

“Through minimal process iteration, we have been able to fine-tune our scaffolds to achieve predefined microstructural and mechanical criteria.” — Rosslee Guess, Design Engineer, Strait Access Technologies

Support when it matters most

For applications that fall outside standard protocols

New or difficult materials

Polymers and solvent systems without an established protocol, where stable spinning requires dedicated parameter development.

Complex geometries

Tubes, aligned membranes, core–shell fibres, or 3D targets that require a considered nozzle and collector strategy.

Tight specifications

Microstructural or mechanical criteria that standard settings cannot reliably achieve, run after run.

Scale-readiness

A process robust enough to translate toward production later, without re-development from the start.

How it works

A custom process, developed for your machine

Collaborative, structured around your application — and your team retains the protocol we develop.

Step 1

Application assessment

We review your target fibre, form, material and performance requirements, and define the acceptance criteria.
Step 2

Parameter development

Climate, voltage, flow and collector settings are established for your specific application on the EC-CLI.
Step 3

Protocol documentation

You receive a repeatable, transferable protocol — fully documented and owned by your team.
Step 4

Module recommendations

Guidance on the plug-and-play add-on modules — translating nozzles, custom collectors, coaxial and co-spinning, and real-time thickness measurement — suited to your application.

From Lab to Line

From your machine to manufacturing scale

Because the EC-CLI shares its core technology with VIVOLTA’s MediSpin™ automated production platform, a process developed and proven on your machine can subsequently be transferred and validated at manufacturing scale — your parameters carry over, shortening time to market.

If you prefer VIVOLTA to develop and manufacture a process end to end, our CDMO development services continue where machine-level support concludes — within our ISO 13485-certified facility.

Why VIVOLTA

Decades of electrospinning expertise on your side

VIVOLTA — formerly IME Medical Electrospinning — has developed reproducible electrospinning processes since 2008, following its origin as a spin-out of the Technical University of Eindhoven. Our scientists draw on that heritage and on more than 100 EC-CLI installations worldwide, including research institutions across North America, to address the process challenges that delay projects.

You work directly with VIVOLTA’s electrospinning specialists and application-science team, drawing on decades of combined experience — not a generalist support desk.

Questions & Answers

Is custom process development available to laboratories in the United States?

Yes. VIVOLTA supports laboratories worldwide, including across North America, with specialist input available remotely and on-site, coordinated through our US commercial office in Dallas, Texas, and our European headquarters.

Can a process developed on the EC-CLI be scaled to production?

Yes. The EC-CLI shares core technology with the MediSpin™ production platform, so a process proven on your machine can be transferred and validated at manufacturing scale through VIVOLTA’s CDMO — your parameters carry over.

Do I need to send my samples or materials to VIVOLTA?

Custom process development is run on your EC-CLI for your application. Depending on the engagement, work can be carried out with your team on your machine and supported remotely by our specialists; specifics are scoped during the application assessment.

How is custom process development different from VIVOLTA’s CDMO services?

Custom process development supports owners of an EC-CLI electrospinning machine — our scientists help you develop and document a reproducible protocol that your own team then runs. CDMO services are different: there, VIVOLTA develops and manufactures the process for you in our ISO 13485-certified facility. Many customers start with machine-level support and scale to the CDMO later.
